N30 march in Nottingham

The November 30th march in Nottingham in defence of public sector pensions was huge. It was by far and away the biggest demonstration I've ever been on in the city and it's even been suggested that it could have been the largest trade union demonstrations in Nottingham's history.

On Monday 21 November, Lewis Stainer, a student photographer covering the occupation in Market Square, Nottingham, witnessed the arrest of someone from the camp. He attempted to video the arrest and was promptly intimidated into handing over the video tape.

Tomorrow (Wednesday November 30th) will see the largest industrial action in the UK for many years, perhaps the biggest since the General Strike of 1926. Inevitably there will be the usual war of words as to the effectiveness of the action, but it is already clear that this will be a significant and disruptive strike locally and nationally.

On November 30th, an array of public sector unions will strike together against government attacks on their pensions. In Nottingham there will be pickets across the city, a march and rally, a critical mass bike ride and, in the evening, a meeting opposing cuts at the BBC.

The Bigger Society Social Club was evicted on Monday but events are being carried on at the Sumac Centre.

Bigger Society Free Space in Nottingham

UPDATE: The space has been evicted but will continue at the Sumac Centre.

An occupied autonomous space has been opened in Nottingham. The free space, at the former Conservative Social Club on Church Street in Lenton, is intended as a space to plan and discuss ways of supporting the strike on November 30th, as well as the wider anti-cuts campaign and other movements for radical social change.

The Bigger Society Social Club is open

The Notts Free Space is now open to the public. We are occupying the former Conservative Social Club on Church Street in Lenton. Please come and support us tonight and tomorrow whilst we get off the ground. A programme of events will be taking place throughout the week.

A group have occupied the empty Conservative Club on Church Street in Lenton. The Bigger Society Social Club will feature workshops, discussions and film showings in support of movements for radical social change. In particular, the participants are focussing on supporting the public sector strike on 30th November as well as the wider anti-cuts movement.

Solidarity With Nottingham’s ‘Atos Two’

On Friday 25th November, the ‘Atos Two’ appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court. Despite some confusion over times, the hearing itself was uneventful with both pleading not guilty and the trial being set for February 27th.
