Defiant in Silence 'Stand In' at Speakers Corner

People gathered at Speakers Corner for what I thought was to be a kinda silent vigil.
quote:
TODAY & growing each week, people of Nottingham will stand together by the Brian Clough statue in collective defiance of the current state of affairs. Furthermore, while using a practice employed in Squares across the world we will reclaim & reinvigorate Speakers' Corner. The silent 'STAND IN' begins at 2.30pm until 2.45. BE THERE.
(Send this text to your family, friends & EVERYONE! Talk about it & publish on social media!)

However, it didn't work and we weren't very silent. We ended up playing pass the parcel, I Spy and a had a bit of a Hokky Kokky!!
Still, the thought was there ..... and if it does grow, am sure that next time we will try and be a bit more disciplined ....... or not!
Continuing in my collection of characters that can be found in Nottingham of a Saturday afternoon, joining in with cuts demos or the occupation ...... This time we got Pudsey the Bear who joined us for support. I have to ask .... whatever next?

Majority politics is b****cks
You may have some points, but appealing to a mythical majority of the working class is a very bad idea. Who are these 'normal' 'ordinary' people? How many concessions must we make in order to appeal to them?
Conspiracy theories should be opposed because they're nonsense not because they might put off this mythical normal person. Diversity not enforced unity.
a lighter tone for 15 mins
many there are very sincere in their views and action [me also]. We let our hair down for 15 mins and we get this. It might also be argued that to be po-faced about everything, might also be a turn-off people.
"A revolution without dancing is a revolution not worth having"
I am disappointed that people who have been working especially hard opposing the cuts for at least the last 12 months are faced with this kind of anonymous criticsm for having a little bit of fun for a few minutes on a Saturday afternoon.
If you have valid points to make about the activist community in nottm it might be worth making them in person at actual events where they can be discussed and taken on board, rather than anonymously on the internet.

embarassing
A defiant silent stand in becomes a game of hoakey coakey? A good metaphor for a lot of nottingham's anti-cut and activist scene. Enthusiastically missing the point and making fools of themselves whilst isolation much of the public. No wonder the public of Nottingham don't get involved with campaigns on the whole. Recently at Occupy notts they have had tons of interest from the public but noone has got involved, maybe the reason is because of the ammount of nonsense that is spouted by a lot of the camp's members. Gold on the moon? lizard people? New World Order? This all scares the majority of the working class away.
Occupy Notts has become a heirarchical farce run by alcoholics and the dangerously misinformed. Much like Uncut has failed in it's attempts to engage the public. Nottingham Activists need to up their game and before anyone responds to this telling me to get involved. I am heavily involved in the movement at the moment and was so deeply embarrassed by what I witnessed on saturday the I felt the need to write this.
