International Women’s Day 2011 in Notingham

Tuesday March 8th 2011 was the centenary of International Women’s Day. A series of events were held to mark this anniversary including an anti-cuts protest, a public meeting on the impact of cuts on women and a women’s history walk.

Around 60 people turned up to discover the events that led to the burning down of the castle and what we know about some of the people involved,

UNESCO has designated August 23rd International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition. The date was chosen to commemorate a slave uprising on Saint Domingue (now Haiti) which began during the night of August 22nd to August 23rd, 1791, an event which contributed to the eventual demise of the Transatlantic Slave Trade.
