National myths and local realities – new thoughts on war resisters in Britain during the 1st World War
A talk by Cyril Pearce
Saturday 19th February 2011, The Nottingham Mechanics Institute, 3 N Sherwood Street, Nottingham NG1 4EZ, 2 pm (doors open at 1.30).
This talk is based on a long-term project to gather data about 1914-1918 Conscientious Objectors and the communities that created and supported them. Evidence from Nottinghamshire and the North Midlands will be considered and set in an emerging understanding of the national context.
Cyril Pearce is Senior Lecturer (Retired) Bretton Hall College, University of Leeds, Visiting Research Fellow, School of Performance and Cultural Industries, University of Leeds.
