Protests in Notts Mark 63rd Anniversary of NHS

On Tuesday 5th July, the NHS marked its 63rd anniversary. Campaigners in Notts marked the event with a series of protests against the Health and Social Care Bill. On Tuesday there were protests at Bassetlaw Hospital and London Road roundabout, Nottingham. The following Saturday campaigners held a day of action for the NHS which included a trial of Health Secretary Andrew Lansley and visits to Virgin Media, HSBC and Vodafone, all implicated in different ways in the current situation of the NHS.

Events included a rally at Speakers’ Corner, Market Square, in which Health Secretary Andrew Lansley was “put on trial” followed by a demonstration outside Virgin Media, part of the Virgin Group, who are well positioned to capitalise on the impacts of the Bill. Meanwhile Notts Uncut demonstrated outside HSBC who have been capitalising on PFI schemes to rip-off the NHS and well-known tax dodgers Vodafone.
