It's full steam ahead for Nottingham's all-vegan and volunteer-led catering campaign Veggies as their 2014 tour is in full swing, with more events being added all the time. Most recently they have taken part in Leicester's annual environmental event, the Greenlight Festival, and also travelled down to Milton Keynes to bring vegan food to activists taking part in an anti-vivisection demo.

The oceans are dying, but there is something we can do about it. That was the message of Wietse van der Werf during his talk in Nottingham on Saturday evening.

Former Nottingham resident Wietse Van Der Werf, co-founder of 'The Black Fish', visited Nottingham tell us more about the threats facing the world's oceans and inspire us to join the growing movement of people taking action for its conservation.

Last week saw peaceful days of action co-ordinated by the 'Stop the Arms Fair Coalition' in response to the bi-annual arms fair DSEi (Defence & Security Equipment International) at the London ExCel Centre. DSEi is the world's largest arms fair and it exists so that arms buyers and sellers can come together, network and make deals.

For 6 years, from 2005 – 2009, Veggies and other vegan campaigners helped organise the East Midlands' Vegan Festival which welcomed over 2000 members of the public each year to the Council House on Nottingham’s Old Market Square.

The Nottingham Green Festival is confirmed for Sunday 1st September.



The event, now in its 22nd year, is independently organised by grass routes community based volunteers, with no statutory funding. The ethical standards and environmental / human / animal rights ethos of the event are long established, having evolved from the pre-history of the Nottm Peace Festival from which it has grown.

This Saturday just passed, Veggies was delighted to be catering at the tenth annual 'Nottinghamshire Pride' event: a vibrant celebration of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender culture and an event respecting difference and promoting equality for all. 

Yesterday (Sunday 14th July) a crew of Veggies volunteers packed up the van and headed to Leeds to cater at Hope Pastures animal sanctuary's event, a fun day for dogs.

Yesterday a dozen Derby campaigners (and one activist dog!) took part in peaceful demonstrations outside of betting shops in Derby city centre to raise awareness about the danger to horses lives in the Grand National, and what happens in the wider horse and greyhound racing industries. They were out campaigning from 11am until after the race started at 4:15pm.

This weekend Animal Rights activists were out in Grantham and at Twycross Zoo in Leicestershire to mark Zoo Awareness Weekend.
