1848 Chartism in Derby and Nottingham in the Year of Revolution
A talk by Matthew Roberts
2 pm (doors open at 1.30)
This talk will compare Chartism in the two main towns of the East Midlands in the year of European revolution. While the early years of Chartism have been well served by historians, we still know relatively little about Chartism in 1848. This talk will attempt to shed some light on the late Chartist experience in Derby and Nottingham.
Matthew Roberts is Senior Lecturer in Modern British History at Sheffield Hallam University.
