Occupy Nottingham
We have set up an internet petition about the council's eviction of the Occupy Camp from the Market Square.
Since its beginning the Occupy Camp on Market Square in Nottingham has maintained liaison with City Council officials. Shortly after it was established the camp accomodated the council's wish for it to move within the square. More recently (end February 2012) it has been in discussion about relocation and had agreed to move. Despite this agreement the council has issued an eviction notice.
What is asked on the council in this petition is deliberately left vague. This is in order to be reasonable and to leave the council "wriggle room", the scope to offer a variety of forms of support to retrieve the situation that they have created by their unnecessary action.
Links:
"The decision of Nottingham City Council to evict the Occupy Camp when the camp had already agreed to relocate appears to be an unnecessary, over the top, exercise of power that is a breach of trust. It appears to be an attempt to humiliate a group who have shown dedication and endurance over the winter by surviving on the market square. We call on the council to restore their credentials as respectors of democratic dissent."

Hmmm... that sounds more like a recipe for getting the camp turned over much quicker. I agree that petitions are crap but I don't fancy your idea much better.
good riddance
Time to go and as for the polluting vehicles, stupid comment
what has this achieved apart from making the city centre look like a mess. no clear purpose other than lets deal with the banks. what do they want. dunno seems to be the standard answer, equality for all, well time to get into the real world, that doesnt exist. even places that try it such as communist states have a hierachy. there is no socialist state that exists that works. in all circumstances, it is worth considering the outcome of Animal Farm, perhaps the greatest insight in power and anyone that is in it, tries to maintain it. same with banks. a tent is not a protest. fine get up on a saturday and talk to the people of nottingham using leaflet but a campthat appears to be empty for a majority of the time is not a demonstration, it is cheap accomodation. therefore, if the camp wishes to remain, perhaps a rental agreement for a prime location in the city should be considered.

a petition
A petition will have the assholes who make our lives miserable quaking in their jackboots. Go out and slash the tyres of their expensive polluting vehicles instead-they don't like that-they do love petitions though.
