Another paedo cop is jailed

Former police inspector, Russell Dew, pleaded guilty to sexually touching a 13 year old girl and has been imprisoned for 6 years. He joins other officers such as Sergeant Darren Dearling on the sexual offenders register. Dew committed the offences whilst a serving police officer in Newark last year. In a sick twist he helped set up a centre for victims of abuse in Croydon.

It is natural that, when given a position of power over others as all police officers are, that many will abuse that power for personal gain. It is also natural that individuals who want to have power over others will join the police force in order to get that power. From administering beatings to intimidating photographers to lying through their teeth, abuses of power are rife within the police force and many officers clearly believe that they are above the law.

As long as we have a police force we will have predatory, abusive cops. No reforms will change that.

go back to school

Given that there is probably over 100,000 police in the UK, statistically there is bound to be a few paedos in there. In the same way that any other large group of people few a few paedos

Name me one drop of 100,000+ people where there isn't a paedo or two?

This post is just an emotion hatred of cops rather than based on sound reasoning. By your argument, we should ban all school teachers and doctors as well. Idiot

@james

"This post is just an emotion hatred of cops rather than based on sound reasoning."

No it isn't. It points out the power relationship that is created when a body of people are given a monopoly on violent, coercive behaviour.

Your statement that it is "emotion hatred" and that the poster is an "idiot" seems to have no logic behind it and is based on your own prejudices.

THERE IS NO JUSTICATION

...for this kind of action. full stop.

however, if we are to be realistic; it should not be seen to be a criticism of the Police. ANY person in ANY job is capable of committing terrible offences, and Police Officers will then suffer the severe dissapointment and hatred from their colleagues for letting down the image and reputation of the service, as well as any judicial actions.

these are human beings with human failings. there is no way to tell who will do such things because i imagine many won't even know themselves, and until there is we have to accept that truly awful things can happen, but they are isolated, and the responsiblity lies with the indivudual and them alone.

Open your eyes

"ANY person in ANY job is capable of committing terrible offences"

Oh really? What opportunities does working as a binman give you to do the things mentioned in this article? What opportunities does working as a bus driver give you to commit abuses of power? Probably quite minimal ones. The police are given state sanctioned capabilities to kidnap and assault and police officers very, very rarely ever get prosecuted for what they do. It is no wonder that they behave the way they do.

"and Police Officers will then suffer the severe dissapointment and hatred from their colleagues for letting down the image and reputation of the service"

Not necessarily. The police often close ranks around their own to protect them.

"there is no way to tell who will do such things because i imagine many won't even know themselves, and until there is we have to accept that truly awful things can happen, but they are isolated, and the responsiblity lies with the indivudual and them alone."

Utter nonsense. I think that people who are armed to the teeth and given carte blanche to wield power over others are far more likely to abuse that power than people who have none.

Take off your pro-police spectacles and see the reality. Our media is totally biased towards our police force so it's no surprise that so many people don't see the light.
