Far right activists, led by Casuals United and Tony Curtis of the English National Resistance, will be holding a demonstration against a Muslim conference in Nottingham this weekend. They will be protesting outside the East Midlands Conference Centre at 1pm on Saturday 30th March.

In response to our previous article asking why they were coming, they have now seen fit to reveal that they are protesting the invitation of Haitham al-Haddad to speak at the conference. Previously they just told their followers to blindly follow their command to oppose the “hate preachers” and none of them asked questions. Blind obedience seems to be as alive and well in the far right as it was in the days of “just following orders” 1930s Germany.

The decision to oppose al-Haddad is not unreasonable, given that he has reportedly described Jews as “the enemies of God, and the descendants of apes and pigs” and believes in the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. He has said that should a woman refuse to sleep with her husband, “angels will curse” her and has written in favour of the prohibition of musical instruments. That he is speaking at a family event and passing on these bigoted ideas is very disturbing.

But it is the utmost hypocrisy for former EDL members to be protesting this man. After all, Tony Curtis has supported the NWI recently, even though leader, John “Snowy” Shaw also believes in the Protocols of the Elders of Zion and extreme anti-Semitic ideas. Why is Curtis protesting a Muslim hate preacher but not the hate preacher in his own midst? We can also point the finger at Jeff Marsh, leader of Casuals United, who set up the the openly Nazi Welsh Defence League. Even the former leader of the EDL’s Jewish Division quit claiming that the organisation had been taken over by Nazis. The EDL has courted Jews when it has seemed politically useful but is now turning back to anti-Semites for support.

It’s also hypocritical for the far right to criticise al-Haddad’s sexist ideas and lack of respect for a woman’s sexual consent. EDL members have been exposed for promoting rape as a weapon against their enemies and local members were exposed by us for their misogynist and sexually predatory posts. Some of these men will be turning up to “oppose” al-Haddad’s views on women at the weekend, but their own are equally disgusting and backwards. Why aren’t Casuals and Curtis booting them out of the ranks? Maybe because they aren’t brown or bearded enough.

Al-Haddad should be opposed by the vast majority who find his views abhorrent, not this ragtag bunch of far right misfits whose own ideas are just as disgusting. It would be best if both al-Haddad and the racist, sexist, homophobes of the far right were sent packing.

Looks like this lot are going to be standing around in a chilly little pig pen in a deserted corner of campus, shouting at themselves. The uni is shut from Friday to Tuesday and all the students are away for Easter. But then, communicating with the public has never been their strong point!

John 'snowy' Shaw is not and never has been the leader of the NWI and who actually fell out of favour after being found guilty of animal cruelty in 2011 the picture you show of the Welsh Defence League is of a rogue outfit who Jeff Marsh actually booted from the division for their extreme right wing views for which he was the recipient of threats against his life (where is Jeff Marsh in that image?) And finally I have had nothing to do with the EDL for 18 months now preferring to concentrate on the ENR which incorporates many patriot (not racist) organisations-if you wish to continue this dialoque please feel free to inbox me on my FB account-i won't hold my breath though as you will be too busy brainwashing your own bunch of blind followers.

As Islam is an ideoligy-a belief and not a race the criticism of Islam in any context degree or level cannot be deemed as 'racist'.

Because islam is a brutal backward and sadistic way of life which has no place in any democratic society and will openly cencede to being islamophobic.

It would be concerning for a 14 year old to be "on VERY friendly terms" with a senior member of ANY community.

The very fact that you phrased this question to focus on a particualar grouping of people, i.e. Muslims, is the proof that, yes, you are indeed a racist.

It is a known and well established fact that for the past 15 years muslim grooming gangs have intentionally targeted pubescent and prepubescent white girls to pass around their communities for sexual gratification-they do this by befriending the girls.

Islam is a belief system not a way of life. There are hundreds of different cultures and peoples who claim to be Muslim and hundreds of different ways of life associated with Muslim belief. It says a lot don't it that at a time when ordinary people are getting royally done over by the government through austerity, cuts to public services, wage freezes, unemployment, workfare, bedroom tax, etc, etc all the far right have to offer is a demo against muslims.

Sure that might play up to some people's fear of all things foreign and unknown but its a real cop out. It wont help people improve their lives, feed their families and work together (yeah even with the dreaded muslims lol) to get rid of the corrupt ruling class that is making us pay for their mistakes.

Where were the EDL and all their even less memorable hangers on when the people of Nottingham were fighting the bedroom tax? Where were they when there were workfare exploiters to demo? Where were they when foodbanks were being set up to feed people from our communities who were shown the door by the system? etc.

The far rights shadowboxing with islam is just an ugly distraction from the real struggle to take back control of our lives.

The "Muslim/English/red-haired people are not a race" argument is a bit of an odd one, which depends on the idea that there are such things as biologically distinct races. In fact, the findings of the human genome project demonstrates that we are all one race, despite our surface differences.
People with brown skin are not a race (there's more genetic diversity in west Africa than in the rest of the world combined, but few people would argue that such differences equate to those people being of different races.
Ideas of racial purity are wholly misguided. By the same token, being prejudiced against people for their religion, hair colour or country is every bit as discriminatory and idiotic as hating them for their "race".
