Walking up Long Row in Nottingham, trying to get past the Winter Wonderland and the public involved in full-on Christmas shopping ..........
I came upon this situation. People looked on a bit supprised. Small children look worried & concerned. Oh and one little girl thought it was hilarious.
I don't know what the issue was, [apart from the Big Issue of course], but this Community Protection Officer clearly lacked a bit the christmas spirit we are supposed to demonstrate to each other around this time.
The community, clearly in need of protection from him. Bah humbug ... he issues Santa with a ticket.
Merry Christmas fella!!

i don't know.
I didn't want to interfere at the time, because i might have escalated any situation. I kept my distance. but last night, I emailed editorial at the big issue to tell them about it. the id of the vendor means they could contact him if required. I wish him the best.
You should have asked
I think you should have asked the vendor after the cop had gone, before writing to the Big Issue office. If it was harrassment you could have offered him personal support or at least expressed solidarity, which he might have appreciated. But there is a possibility that the 'ticket' was issued for a genuine reason, and if that involved the vendor breaking one of the Big Issue's rules,(I have seen vendors using the magazine to beg, for example, or sell it when they are noticeably drunk, both of which could get them a public order offence fixed penalty ticket) you might have got him into trouble by writing to the office.
HOW VERY RESPONSIBLE
...to post an article about something that you clearly have no information about.
there is no way this officer was giving a ticket to someone simply for selling the big issue.
if he was issuing a ticket there would have been good reason to do so, relevant to the powers given to him.
these people are employed to deal with crime and anti-social behavior, and attempt to make the world a better place to live in, yet people like to slate them without being in command of ANY facts.
keep doing your job officer. there are tons of people in favour of you.
simply not our experience
here is another example of the excess of these people:

Better world? you can keep it
To the person who took these pictures
How can you automaticly assume that this officer is giving out a ticket, it looks like he's taking notes, for all you know the officer is helping him.
There's a lot of people that hate uniform, I used to be one of those untill I realised that all people in uniform are differnt and it's not fair to tar them with the same brush, most of them do a very hard job and help people every day... I have been fined £50 myself for spitting gum out onto the floor, it's a disgusting habbit I have and I didn't even realise how bad it was. But I took the consiqences like an adult and paid the fine, I never did it again! The officer who finned me treated me with respect, and I respected that fact, which changed my views. I would of prefered a warning ofcourse but at end of the day I wold of carried on being a twat and spitting my gum everywhere.

a "ticket"?
this article is lacking useful detail, which would make the situation easier to understand.
what was he given a "ticket" for?
was it really just for selling the big issue?
did you get a chance to speak to him afterwards?
do the big issue have a nottingham office?
what do they think of this situation?
what can the rest of us do to try and ensure this doesn't happen to other vendors?
has anyone made a complaint about the officer yet?
could you put details here for those who would like to?
