Left Lion: meat-free life, Mark Kennedy and campaign catering

If you grew up in Notts and don’t partake in meat, you probably owe a huge debt to Patrick Smith. Why? Because he’s spent three decades as a vegan activist while slinging veggie burgers from a van in town, back in the day when ‘vegetarian option’ meant ‘just chips’. Now operating his veggie business out of the Sumac Centre in Forest Fields, he talks about a meat-free career, the Ra…

A lot of 'policing' took place during Royal Wedding.

Squats raided, pre-emptive arrests, websites closed down, and lots we don't know about .... yet.

Political sites deleted from Facebook  http://london.indymedia.org/articles/8923

there has been significant efforts in attacking social media sites, being used for political purposes and organising. …

Holiday on Friday and the Market Square was full of folks enjoying the sun.

A Capoeira session started up by the lions in front of the Council House and was hugely enjoyed by those there and those passing by. A few having a go for the first time. Warden patroling the area looked on with a bit of sour face :-)

Notts Black Arrow: Interview with a striking lecturer

I interviewed Bruce, a lecturer in Economics at Trent University to get a better idea of what the dispute was about. I think it's fair to say that Bruce's views are closer to  social democracy than our own, none the less we think it gives valuable insight both to what is happening at the university and across the sector.

What is this dispute about officially? And what else are strikers angry abo…
