Another Armed Turnout by Nottinghamshire Police

Thursday 5th May
In the middle of the local election day, I happened across another armed turnout by Nottinghamshire Police.
At about 12.00 noon, at an address at the top of Woodborough Road on the Mapperley Plain, there were 5 police vehicles and for a brief period the force helicopter.
It appeared to be a news-worthy event and I took these pictures. It is the latest in a number of such incidences that I've witnessed. I am concerned [as many are], that although police generally are un-armed, these appearences do appear to me becoming more frequent. Becoming more normal in fact.
I have no idea of the issue or threat here. I consulted the Nottinghamshire Police newswire on their website and rang the 'voicebank' for further information, but the incident was not recorded on either.
I thus emailed the force press office to ask for a statement on the incident but have received no reply. So have hung about a bit before posting these so can only say that Nottinghamshire Police had no comment to make.

RE: weapons upgrade
Sorry, that first link should be http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2008/04/395750.html
The Met Police will issue the controversial 'hollow point' bullets as standard to all their firearms officers:
The Metropolitan's Police firearms chief tells Simon Israel that all of their armed officers will be issued the controversial bullet as standard, arguing it poses less of a risk to the public.
A special type of bullet used in the Stockwell shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes who was mistaken for a suicide bomber, is to be issued as the new standard ammunition issued to all 3,000 firearms officers in the Metropolitan Police.
It follows an £80,000 12-week-long testing programme of the 9mm hollow point bullet. The new bullet will replace the current 9mm soft point variation.
The ammunition will now be used by officers armed with Glock pistols and Heckler and Koch rifles.

The head of the Met's Firearms Unit Commander Jerry Savill told me that all police forces in the UK will be shown their research is based on experiments in which various type of bullets were fired into a solid block of gelatine.

Says it all
Tash says "I have no idea of the issue or threat here".
Says it all really, you make a social commentary on the state and your own perception that there are more armed cops on the street, but with little understanding and knowledge of why they are there.
From looking at your photos the sheer fact that they've sent CSI in, but dressed in forensic suits, after armed police should be enough to tell you that whoever had been inside was armed. Maybe it was an arrest warrant, maybe it was crimestoppers info about a gun factory.

weapons upgrade
Nottinghamshire police now seem to be using modern G36C subcarbines, as opposed to the old HK53s they were using when Tash was arrested for photographing them (http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2008/04/395750.html)
The G36C is much more powerful than the MP5, and slightly more powerful than the HK53, prompting fears that it could easily harm or kill innocent bystanders.
