East Midlands Anti-fascists: EDL organiser threatens independent media

Nottingham EDL organiser, Jay Clark, has made threats against the Nottingham Indymedia website in relation to an article on the site exposing the presence of the EDL and BNP at this year’s St George’s Day march. “It’s about time these pathetic cunts got wiped clean out of Nottingham” he wrote on Facebook. Asked whether he meant the EDL or the BNP he clarified “Nottingham Indymedia there a b…

Prominent far right presence on St George's Day

The City Council promoted St George's Day march attracted hundreds of people to the streets of Nottingham today. For most, the parade was nothing more than a chance to get their England shirt on and have a beer in the sun. However, the local EDL were very prominent, near the front of the rally and marching under the largest banner on the march. Some of the local BNP branch also marched.

Labour party anti-mayor campaign stoops to new low

Jon Collins' struggle to hang onto power has been getting increasingly hysterical of late. Collins, the current Leader of Nottingham City Council, is threatened by the thought of losing his power to a directly elected Mayor and is throwing all kinds of dodgy arguments around in the hope of scaring people into voting against switching to mayoral control. A leaflet found in the street outside a mosq…

East Midlands Anti-Fascists: Meet the EDL's organiser in Lincoln: Chris Conroy

Last summer the Newark division of the EDL was founded with much self-trumpeting in the local press. In an interview for the Newark Advertiser, founder Chris ‘Spike’ Conroy talked up a march of 1,500 members through the streets of Newark and boasted of an inaugural meeting of 72 people. Ten months on we’re still waiting for that march and the EDL struggles to attract half that number to their …

Fascists talk nonce sense

In response to continued exposes of cover-ups of paedophilia within fascist and far right groups, the British Nationalist Man Child Love Association has released this message:

East Midlands Anti-fascists: EDL have sad day out in Leicester

The EDL had no fun in Leicester. Stepping out of their coaches, punters were greeted by a fuzzy sound system blaring miserable tunes to a small clump of die-hard xenophobes clustered in a car park in an industrial estate near a frozen river. Even at this early hour, many were pissed: one attendee had to chug his bottle of Lambrini before being allowed off the coach by the police, in case he b…

EDL return to Leicester

Three-arrows-thumb

On Saturday February 4th the EDL descended on Leicester. The EDL previously visited Leicester in October 2010. This time round, they weren't able to turnout as many supporters, but once again there was a mobilisation of anti-fascists, while local youth organised to defend their own communities.

Leicestershire Solidarity Group: Report - EDL visit to Leicester

On Saturday 4th February, numerous anti-fascists withstood freezing temperatures and a bitterly cold windchill to stand against the fascist EDL’s visit to Leicester.

Prior to this, Mayor Peter Soulsby, Leicester City Council, politicians, some ‘community leaders’ and the police had predictably told locals to stay at home and see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil.  Shops were advised …

Malatesta's Blog: Dignity Found Dead In Rochdale

Crivvens! Jings! And Help Ma Boab! What a total failure for both the English Defence League and the Infidels this weekend. The EDL called a ‘national’ demo in Leicester and managed to get a paltry 700, which is rubbish, but the Infidels breakaway faction had such a piss poor turnout in Rochdale that even one of their staunchest supporters claimed it ‘was a disaster.’ Shame...

Network for Police Monitoring: Leicestershire police: "Operation Stay Safe"

Leicestershire police are once again operating ‘Operation Stay Safe’ to keep young people away from demonstrations in Leicester on the 4th February.

Demonstrations and assemblies are expected in the city in response to the presence of the right-wing English Defence League (EDL), who will also hold a rally. Leicestershire constabulary has promoted a strong ‘stay at home’ message, which …

Derby Telegraph: EDL supporter attacks taxi driver in Derby

A RACIST thug who punched a taxi driver and dragged him along a street, has been jailed for 18 months.

Lee Preston, 22, targeted cabbie Mohammed Rashid, leaving him with two black eyes, a bruised face and grazes to his shoulders caused when he was dragged to the ground.

Mr John Hallisey, prosecuting, said the cabbie received a call at 9pm on April 16 to collect five men from Chaddesden.

Leicester EDL march: route announced

The EDL will be meeting from 11am on Saturday 4th Feb for their Leicester march. The muster point is St Margaret’s Pastures, just outside the ring road. The march will start at 12.30pm when they’ll go onto St Margaret’s Way, Burley’s Way, Abbey St, right onto Belgrave Gate, then Church St and back to St Margaret’s Pastures where they will be allowed a static demo for a limited period of …

EDL to demonstrate in Leicester

The EDL have announced that they will be going to Leicester for their next national demo on 4th Feb. They say that this is in response to the “racist” attack on Rhea Page, who was assaulted by four women of Somali descent in Leicester in June 2010. The women all received suspended sentences in November.

Guardian: EDL splinter groups may target publicsector strike

EDL groups are broadening out their attacks to focus on leftwing organisations

Britain's biggest unions are warning of a threat of violence by far-right groups during national strike action this month, amid concern that fascist elements are increasingly intent on targeting striking public sector workers.

Unite, Unison and the TUC said they were taking the prospect of disruption by far-right su…

edlnews: EDL: The Notts Division Coach Fiasco

The people in the bus on the [botton video] were 44 members of the far-Right English Defence League from Nottingham who'd been arrested and charged with violent disorder. They'd already been in a fight with the locals and their coach was smashed up (partially by them), so the police stuck them on that bus and removed them.

Nottingham EDL organiser poses with a gun

1341_1023-thumb

A recent expose of the English Defence League by Hope not Hate features a photo of James Clarke, described as Nottingham EDL Organiser, posing with a weapon. The article shows no fewer than 15 EDL members all posing with firearms, including Joel Titus, the EDL's Youth Leader. The far right have always loved guns and posing like hardmen but in the wake of the Norway massacre this takes on a more ch…

Newark Advertiser: EDL coming to Newark(?)

"The English Defence League is planning a march through Newark that one of its senior members says could attract up to 1,500 people." Yeah right!

BBC News: EDL activist in Notts pleads guilty

"A 25-year-old English Defence League member has pleaded guilty to daubing racist graffiti on land being considered as a site for a mosque." (BBC News)

Interestingly, the incident was reported on 23rd June and they've already managed to find him and drag him in front of a magistrate. Was he stupid enough to brag about it online? Or did he just get caught on, and recognised from, CCTV?

UK Indymedia: EDL coach company targetted

It seems that some anti-fascists have paid a visit to one of the EDL's coach companies in Derbyshire.

EDL descend on Leicester

: Video: English Defence League Riot in Leicester

This video http://vimeo.com/15738936  is longer than the usual rushes  put together. This is to document everything I shot that day, from morning to evening, which stands as a very clear account of the day's events and shows what happens to a city when the EDL arrive, but also what we as journalists go through in order to deliver these types of images to the public.

: EDL in Leicester

"Leicester is probably the most diverse city in the country in terms of ethnicity, Chinese, Jewish, Bangladeshi, Ugandan Indian, Hindu, Sikh, West Indian, Nigerian, white British and Irish and many more culture live together with comparatively little cultural conflict. The biggest mobilisation of police for 25 years in the country (the biggest since the miners strikes, which were large in Lei…

: "It's not easy being called Anakin Allcock."

Wouldn't normally repost a corporate media article but this one's hilarious - new EDL spokesman Anakin Allcock tells his woes to the Leicester Mercury. Also features a man from Blackburn dressed as a chicken.

EDL fail to make progress in Leicester

The EDL are already crowing about what a good time they had in Leicester yesterday. It certainly turned out better than Bradford for them, but Bradford was so pitiful that that isn't saying much. They never got to Highfields or St Matthews which were well defended by the local community. They were rounded up onto their coaches by 4.30 and sent home. Most of the local community were disgusted by th…

: Anger at Leicestershire police "press card"

NUJ statement criticising Leicestershire Police's decision to issue their own press cards/badges for today's EDL protest in Leicester.

Have the EDL gone mad?

In response to the Home Secretarys ban on the EDL their leadership have announced that they are going to "pull all police liaison", "remove all stewarding" and "will still march in one way or another". It seems like the moderates have thrown in the towel and the extremists are coming to the fore. It also looks like a bad tactical move for the right wing group.
