Leicester Unite Against Fascism is holding an emergency public meeting on 23rd September at the African Caribbean Centre, starting at 6.30pm. This meeting will launch a broad campaign in response to the decision by the English Defence League, an organisation of racist thugs with close links to leading members of the Nazi British National Party, to attempt a march in Leicester on October 9th. This meeting is crucial if we are to build for a successful, peaceful protest against the EDL on the 9th October.

We need this to be the biggest possible meeting so please invite anyone you can. We can send a clear message to the EDL that we do NOT want them in Leicester on the 9th October.

This is is your city – this is our city – we will not tolerate any section of our community being fearful of walking the streets because of the colour of their skin or the religion they happen to follow. If we allow the EDL to take over our streets then they have won. If we stay at home for fear of the EDL then they have won. Stand up together on October 9th and show the racist thugs of the EDL what Leicester looks like, and that we won’t tolerate their attempts to drive a wedge between communities spreading fear, hatred and violence.
