Rod Thornton, a University of Nottingham lecturer who became embroiled in the struggle for justice for Rizwaan Sabir and Hicham Yezza, has published his extensive account of the case of the Nottingham Two. Pieced together from heavily redacted Freedom of Information requests, Rizwaan's Data Protection Access requests and even meetings with Special Branch officers, it paints a damning picture of th…

According to an article in the Newark Advertiser, Nazi graffiti has appeared in Newark, with swastikas being scrawled on the front door of an internationally-renowned French fashion photographer, Michel Haddi, of Millgate, who has a Jewish girlfriend and on a car belonging to Ruth Vella who lives nearby. It is unclear if these are the actions of idiot kids or indicate something more serious.

On Saturday October 9th, the English Defence League (EDL) brought their heady mix of football hooliganism, racism and copious quantities alcohol to Leicester. There was a mobilisation by local anti-fascists, with local youth organising to defend their own communities.

This video http://vimeo.com/15738936 is longer than the usual rushes put together. This is to document everything I shot that day, from morning to evening, which stands as a very clear account of the day's events and shows what happens to a city when the EDL arrive, but also what we as journalists go through in order to deliver these types of images to the public.

The EDL are already crowing about what a good time they had in Leicester yesterday. It certainly turned out better than Bradford for them, but Bradford was so pitiful that that isn't saying much. They never got to Highfields or St Matthews which were well defended by the local community. They were rounded up onto their coaches by 4.30 and sent home. Most of the local community were disgusted by th…

I hope that readers of this article will be aware of what I mean by activism. It is the work of that particular sect, “the activists”, who have taken it upon themselves to rid the world of evil. Whilst their peers pursue careers, raise families or lose themselves in hedonism, the activists minimise their commitments to the conventional world, putting their hearts and souls into the furtheranc…
