OPPOSE CUTS, DON'T PAY COUNCIL TAX!

For the fourth year running Labour-contolled Nottingham City Council are making swingeing cuts to local public services.  The total of £17 million reduction in spending includes further reductions to services for vulnerable groups including children's services and adult social care.  Staff pay will be frozen for the  coming year at a time when some other local councils will pay the Living Wage to their employees.  For the second year running Council Tax will be raised, by 1.95%, so we are being asked to pay more for less.  Meanwhile the Labour parasites on Nottingham City Council continue to draw their generous allowances and expenses.  No cuts for them!

At the same time rising numbers of people are in arrears with Council Tax payments. The Council is pursuing over 20,000 people who are behind with payments, some of them victims of the Bedroom Tax. This persecution is part of the Coalition Government's War on the Poor which is being implemented by local councils including Labour ones.  Even the Council admits that with falling real incomes the number of Council Tax defaulters will rise.

Twnety odd years ago when the Tory Government introduced the inequitous Poll Tax, millions of people refused to pay up.  This forced the Government to climb down and scrap the Poll Tax.  Already across the country millions of people are in Council Tax arrears.  Anti-Austerity Action calls for millions more people, including those who can afford it, not to pay up.  This would deepen the financial crisis in local government and force the Coalition to curtail their attack on public services.

On Monday, 3rd. March Nottingham City Council meets to vote on their cuts budget for 2013/14.  From 13.00 there will be a demonstration, including Anti-Bedroom Tax protestors, outside of the Council House in Old Market Square.  Anti-Austerity Action urges all opponents of austerity  and cuts to come along and vent their anger on the parasite councillors.

KICK THEIR LABOUR ARSES!
