Veganism made easy in Lincoln

The national campaigning organisation, Animal Aid, has joined with local group, Lincoln Animal Friends, to stage a Free Vegan Food Fayre.

The event falls within Animal Aid’s Vegan Month – an annual initiative, which aims to promote the overwhelmingly positive benefits of a vegan diet and introduce people to a wide variety of animal-free foods at events throughout the month.

The Free Vegan Food Fayre aims to attract a wide variety of people, from those thinking about becoming vegetarian or vegan to those who have no idea what vegans eat and would like to try some delicious animal-free food or learn more about a compassionate lifestyle. Everyone is welcome! There will be a variety of food to sample from leading vegetarian companies, as well as ideas for tasty dishes to try at home. Staff will be on hand to offer help and advice, as well as lots of free literature to take home.

An average meat-eater consumes around 5,000 animals in his or her lifetime. Animal farming uses up vast quantities of land, water and energy and causes increasing amounts of pollution and damage to natural ecosystems. A vegan diet requires much less land and is far more efficient. There is now a scientific consensus that a plant-based diet is perfectly healthy and provides all essential nutrients. Vegans suffer lower rates of obesity, heart disease, diabetes and some cancers than meat-eaters.

Says Vegan Month Co-ordinator, Kelly Slade:

‘Ethical living is becoming increasingly popular. A rising number of people choose fair trade, organic and animal-free produce and there is a growing trend towards reducing our impact on the planet. Going vegan is the single most effective step anyone can take to reduce animal suffering, improve your health and protect the planet. And the food is wonderful, too! What other diet can offer so much? Come along to the Free Vegan Food Fayre and find out more for yourself!’
