March to Nowhere

This demonstration called by the TUC is a farce. Last year hundreds of thousands of people marched in London against the cuts. Many of them had never engaged in a public protest before but then they were let down by the TUC and trade union leaders. Very limited, token industrial action in defence of pensions and against cuts in public sector employment followed. The Government ignored these ineffectual actions.

Now the TUC is trying to con people again. It has no intention of mounting a serious campaign against the Coalition Government's austerity measures. Instead they want to use union funds to support the re-election of Labour MP's, such as Lillian Greenwood sponsored by UNISON, who oppose workers taking industrial action to defend their wages and pensions. Those who are taken in and go on the demo will be treated to speeches from Labour politicians who support austerity measures.

Only more militant, direct actions can have an impact on the Government, such as withholding Council Tax payments.
