The Alan Silliote Committee is a voluntary organisation committed to raising awareness of one of Nottingham's most prolific writers by putting on a series of events, the proceeds from which go towards a statue fund. Sillitoe Day is the biggest day in our calendar and falls every two years.

This event will see the launch of the Sillitoe Trail, a literay walk that can be accessed via smart phones or downloaded as a PDF. Both of which are free. The Sillitoe Trail was one of 53 organisations commissioned by the BBC and Arts Council England. WEYA were also commissioned by The Space.

Featured writers on the day include:

Billy Ivory, Michael Eaton, James Walker, Al Needham, Derrick Buttress, Neil Fulwood, Ann Featherstone, Pete Davis, Christy Fearn, Motamouf, MulletProofPoet

Sillitoe's father was illiterate and through this project we are hoping to raise awareness of the importance of reading as well as create a literary trail which can be used by local storytellers for free to create tourism to the city and to create work.
