Belgian dub punk band Cop on Fire will be playing a benefit gig in support of antifascist prisoners at the Sumac Centre next Thursday 25th Aug.
"Born out of Leuven-Belgium’s activist squatting scene in 2004, Cop On Fire have been putting up festive foundations of pumping drums and sub-bass dub supporting their local scene. Local in this case is as global as a good part of Europe as C.O.F. toured between Scotland and Slovakia, though never playing Kortessem. Consisting of 4 people who have a heart for dub, ska, punk and protest-songs alike, C.O.F. uses these influences to recreate feelings from daily life: sticking it to The Man, taking a stand for Mother Earth, opening the bin for bigoted morality and xenophobia of all kinds…Oh, and we don’t like cops." - http://www.myspace.com/coponfireearth
Food served from 7pm, gig starting at 8ish, support from Half Boy/Half Rat (Bristol skacore), £5 entry.
All proceeds will go towards supporting antifascists jailed after an altercation with fascists at Welling railway station in 2009. More than two years later 7 were convicted of conspiracy to commit violent disorder in May this year and 6 have been sentenced to between 15 and 21 months in prison. None of the fascists were arrested. - http://antifascistprisonersupportuk.wordpress.com
