Police officers in Nottinghamshire are being trained to improve the way they use stop and search powers.

It follows concerns that community relations are being damaged because more black people are stopped than white people.

Ch Supt Simon Nickless said he was telling officers their use of the powers needed to be lawful and proportionate.

AN "urgent review" of training for new Notts police recruits has been recommended, following a report on how the force operates stop and search powers.

It comes after research revealed that in the past three years, black people were around nine times more likely to be stopped and searched than white people. Asian people were around twice as likely to be stopped.
