Anti-cuts campaigners protest Nottingham City Council cuts budget
Anti-cuts campaigners today (Saturday 21st January) launched a campaign calling on city councillors to vote against Nottingham City Council's proposed budget for 2012-13.

The IPCC have criticised Notts Police's failure to prevent the brutal murder of Casey Brittle by her former partner, Sanchez Williams, last year. The murder was the final of 11 incidents of domestic violence which the police were notified of and failed to do anything about. Former Notts firearms cop Timothy Allatt was sent down for 8 weeks today for assaulting a man he arrested in Sneinton last year. Allatt's 'gratuitous violence' left his victim with a collapsed lung and facial injuries. Allatt has already been kicked out of the force for using 'excessive force' in another arrest.
Even with Christmas only just over the horizon, the cuts have continued over the last week, with the announcement of the funding settlement for local councils hitting Nottingham particularly hard. Even Cuts Watch has been cutback, this week's edition arriving late and in a slimmed down version. "Normal" service may or may not resume after the holiday period.

Pleasley Hill People's Network is a group set up near Mansfield, in Nottinghamshire, which aims to build organisation and political involvement in a small area of this former mining community.
Notts County Council are planning to close three day centres for mental health service users. The Middle Street centre in Beeston, Rokerfield Centre in Sutton and Boundary Centre in Worksop could be closed. This is another kick in the teeth for some of the most excluded people in society who the council clearly think they can neglect with impunity.
