Saturday 4th December was a de facto day of action against cuts in Nottingham with a demonstration against tax avoiders and a student protest running into one another.

‘Nottingham Students defy the freeze to continue their fight for Higher Education’

Despite the snow and the heating being turned off, Nottingham Students are occupying the Great Hall in the Trent Building of Nottingham University, for a second day since Tuesday afternoon. Following a general meeting at 1pm today, the students are organising a programme of alternative education, film screenings, workshops and talks, while encouraging regular classes to continue within the space. The occupiers claim that they have doubled in number over the past 24 hours.

Uni of Nottingham occupied in anti-fees protest

As part of a second day of action against fees and cuts, students at Nottingham University have occupied The Great Hall in The Trent Building on University Park. Occupiers are encouraging to supporters to visit them. Donations of food, bedding etc are welcome.

A third day of action is planned for Saturday 4th December (note this was originally planned for Sunday, but has been brought forward).

Nottingham students protest cuts

Nottingham students joined the nationwide protests against the proposed ConDem cuts to education on Wednesday. Around 60 students walked out of Toot Hill school in Bingham and had a rally in Nottingham Market Square. Meanwhile, students at the University of Nottingham marched from the Student Union to the Vice Chancellor's office, and later held a teach in.

Meanwhile the recently attacked Nottingham Conservative party offices closed for the day, in case student unrest spread to Nottingham.
