N30 critical mass and free space

As well as the main pickets and march yesterday, a critical mass was organised to shut down the city. A group of 25 cyclists cycled (at extremely slow pace) around the city centre for a few hours after the march had finished, spreading the word about the strike and the fight against government cuts everywhere we went. There was a huge amount of public support for our message.

Critical Mass Welcomes Release of Atos Arrestee

I haven't been able to get the full story yet but it seems that around 30 protesters occupied the Nottingham Atos medical assessment centre shortly after 12pm today in protest at the company's role in forcing people with medical conditions into work. Two people were arrested for aggravated trespass including one person in a wheelchair that the police were unable to fit into their van. He was charged on the spot and bailed whilst the other was taken to the Bridewell police station. A solidarity protest was held outside which was swelled in the evening by 30 cyclists from the Nottingham critical mass. Just as we arrived at around 6.30 the arrestee was released to much bell ringing and applause!

Nottingham Critical Mass is on the move

Nottingham’s Critical Mass bike ride was restarted on Friday by a group of around 40 cyclists. With a sound system, flags and a sea of fluorescent vests the group reclaimed the city centre’s streets for a celebration of cycling. Critical Mass was a semi-regular fixture in the city between 2005-2009 but has been dormant in recent years. People now meet at 5.30 outside the Victoria Centre clocktower on the last Friday of the month. The next ride will take place on Fri 26th August.

On the newswire: Critical Mass returned to Nottingham (at last!) | Nottingham Critical Mass is back!
