Campaigners to Make Sure Government Listening On NHS Reform

On Wednesday 18th May, Nottinghamshire Save Our Services (Notts SOS) will be holding a picket outside the local NHS "Listening" event to raise their concerns about the Health and Social Care Bill.

It has recently emerged that the daycare service at Hayward House is to terminate on September 1st. This has generated considerable anger amongst service users, volunteers and staff. A campaign has sprung up in response, generating impressive media coverage and attracting a wide range of support in a limited period.

On Thursday 21st April, Notts SOS, Health in Your Environment, Keep Our NHS Public and 38 Degrees held a meeting at the Mechanics' Institute to oppose the Social Care and Health Bill.

In recent weeks it has emerged that the daycare service provided by Hayward House is to end. A campaign against this move has sprung up, attracting considerable local media attention. I interviewed one of the users of the service to find out what they felt about what was going on.

Recent weeks have seen a surge of local activity in defence of the NHS. Campaigners are opposed to cutbacks hitting the health service, as elsewhere, but also about proposed “reforms” of the NHS which critics claim will lead to widespread privatisation and a much reduced service.
