Rushcliffe MP and Minister for "Justice" Ken Clarke has announced plans to privatise Birmingham Prison. There are already a number of privatised prisons in the UK, but this would be the first previously public sector prison to move into the private sector.

Last week saw a huge array of anti-cuts actions beginning on Saturday 19th March with a UK Uncut action which saw Barclays Bank and a number of shops targetted. On Thursday 17th March, Nottingham Students Against Fees and Cuts held a fundraiser at the Maze on Mansfield Road. They managed to raise £330, which means that once the venue fees are taken into account, they earned £270.
